Safety
Rules
- 1. Guests must not harm, injure or threaten other persons.
- 2. Skiers must control their speed according to terrain, weather, snow quality, skill and physical conditions. Skiers must ski while being able to stop at any time to avoid danger.
- 3. Skiers must not obstruct the skiing of persons in front of them.
- 4. Skiers must look upslope to check safety when overtaking other skiers, merging onto a course, or cutting across a slope.
- 5. Skiers must not sit down along the course. Skiers must also refrain from stopping along the course where it is narrow and in areas that cannot be seen from upslope. Should skiers fall, they must promptly clear the course.
- 6. Skiers must use the sides of the course when climbing, walking, or stopping.
- 7. Leashes must be attached to skies and snowboards.
- 8. Notices, signs and broadcasted warnings must be adhered to. Instruction from ski patrols and ski slope staff must be followed.
- 9. Should there be an accident, assist in rescue and notification. You must identify yourself regardless of whether you are involved in the accident or not, or if you are witness.
- 10. Entry into restricted areas and areas restricted with ropes are strictly prohibited at all times.
- 11. Should an accident occur outside the ski area and search and rescue operations conducted by the ski slope patrol, the ski resort will bill those involved for costs incurred.
Attention
Although skiing is a sport that is enjoyed by speeding through the snow and mountains, the following includes a list of factors which are connected with accidents.
Regardless whether a sign is present or not, it is YOUR responsibility that you carefully judge the conditions of the skiing area and control your skiing in order to avoid accidents.
- A. Accidents due to weather such as blizzards, rain, strong winds, dense fog, etc.
- B. Accidents due to the terrain such as cliffs, steep slopes, bumps, etc.
- C. Accidents due to snow and ice conditions such as icy surfaces, deep snow, moguls, etc.
- D. Accidents due to natural objects such as bare land, rocky land, bushes, tree stumps, standing trees, etc.
- E. Accidents due to man-made objects such as the support poles for the lift, buildings, etc.
- F. Accidents due to collisions and coming too close to other skiers.
- G. Accidents due to mistakes made by oneself.
- H. Other.
- 1. For skiers, be mindful that you do NOT bother the person sitting next to you with your ski poles.
- 2. For snowboarders, firmly fasten one foot onto the snowboard, attach the leash code, and fold up the high back.
- 3. Please move in accordance to the instructions of the person in charge.
- 4. Should you feel concerned when using the lift, please call for the staff.
- 5. As you may fall off, please refrain from doing the following actions while sitting on the chair of the lift.
- (1) Shaking the chair.
- (2) Jumping from the chair.
- (3) Fooling around on top of the chair or facing the back.
- (4) Touching support poles and beams with your ski poles.
- 6. When you see “dismount” at the dismount area, please get off and ski away quickly.
- 7. When getting off from the chair, please proceed to the skiing slope so that you do not get in front of the people behind you.
- 8. Even if the lift stops abruptly, please remain where you are. The staff will promptly take care of the issue.
- 9. There may be times when the staff will NOT let you board the lift if it is determined that it is not safe to do so.

As shown as on the figure on the right, the Information Signs that are installed are based on the standards of the National Skiing Safety Measures Association. Even if this is your first time here, by simply following what is displayed on the Information Signs you can smoothly navigate through the skiing slopes of Shiga Kogen using the clear indicators of each slope and course.
